If You Think School Is Hard In America

The process of education is an evolving process
of continuous change, modification, and adaptation.
Rigor, differentiation, literacy, comprehension,
assessments and other terms that are used in the
process of educating children from birth to higher
education and beyond. Educators and parents
can become overwhelmed and confused in this
process of education as curriculum’s change.

This blog is influenced by the recent national
discussion on the need for an educated society
and how children are influenced and encouraged
to learn in the classrooms of this nation and
the application of STEM STEAM STREAM.

I wanted to reference the education of students
globally and the educational support of parents
of color and culture nationwide in America.
Parents need to accept their responsibility for the
educational success of their children and to be
involved with the educational process especially
reading and math.
This is NOT to say parents are not involved,
this is in reference to those that make excuses
for not attending parent/teacher conferences,
eating lunch at least once in the school year with
their kids and will not return teacher phone calls
or notes for parental support with disruptive and
struggling students.

Teachers need parental support and parents
need to be actively involved in schools from Pre-K
to High School. As another school year starts thus
the fashion extravaganza will begin. Everyone
wants to look good the first week, but what of
the 175 remaining days of academic rigor and work?

This nation provides a FREE education, supported
by tax dollars. There have been educational
think-tanks, educational committees, and focus
groups that assess and monitor how students are
educated. The universal ideology is that education
is important to the economic welfare of the
people of the United States of America no
matter the color or culture. All children need to
be educated to survive.

One important fact that cannot be ruled out,
eliminated or downplayed is that in this country
education is important. Nowhere else in the world is
there an educational system like the United
States of America. The foundation is based
on parents being the “First Educator” for their
children. The importance of parents is stated as:
“Parenting involves taking responsibility seriously,
taking advantage of every opportunity to enhance
children’s learning, and providing children with
challenges that contribute to growth and development.”

Parental responsibility is to teach basic
foundational skills and reinforce these with
children before they start school. As an
educator of over 20 years and Teacher of the
Year in my district, I want to share
with parents that interaction with children
and the experiences that are provided can
guide children’s growth and development.

Children should be taken to the library
to build respect in the empowerment of
reading and literacy, they will appreciate
reading when they see their parents excited
about reading.
Children taken to the museum they will
appreciate culture, diversity and historical
connections that they are part of a global
community of humanity.  Children taken
to science centers they will appreciate
science and technology, understand why
STEM and STEAM are valuable to them.

There is work that needs to be done to
educate children and it starts at home. No
matter the educational level of parents, all
parents want the best for their children, but
sometimes need guidance and help.

There is serious intellectual thought during
the writing process. Sometimes writing
will be in a zone of creativity and innovation
to create new content that has an intended
outcome, but sometimes the outcomes are unknown.”

The writings and interviews of Nigerian writer,
poet, storyteller, academic and parent are
transferable to the art of blogging.

Telling a story is not dependent on the
platform whether it is digital or the
traditional paper platforms. Creating a
story comes from the need to share
information that a person thinks is
important and valuable. There is an effort
to put information down that you feel
will benefit others.

Writers like Achebe from Nigeria, Africa,
even though he has passed are able to
transfere the passion of writing to bloggers
because those that blog share on a platform
that is connected globally. Information is
shared at the speed of thought on platforms
like WordPress/Blogger, Microblogging also
known as Twitter, Pinterest, Podcasting
where content is downloaded to digital
devices and even on audio/video platforms.

Lessons need to be shared with new
generations of bloggers, content creators,
thought leaders, innovators, creatives as
each generation has a story to tell.
Successful “bloggers” which is a term
that is transferable across platforms
should understand the past history of
storytelling and the connection of
embracing personal experiences.

Time for African Americans and Africans
to tell their stories.
1. African American and African writers
need to understand things need to be
done to help their communities instead
of complaining and using Social Media
to “throw people under the bus.”

2. African American and African writers
need to understand their place in the
world. That they have a responsibility
to tell their story.

3. African American and African writers
need to understand who their inspirations
are. Who infleunces their growth and
share that knowledge.

4. African American and African writers
need to understand if they do not write
truth to life they are creating a “Gap
in the Bookshelf” in the stories of people
of color and culture.

5. African American and African writers
need to understand the importance of
stories of peple of color and culture.
Mainstream media does not show the “best”
of people of color and culture every day.
It is the importance of bloggers of color
and culture that can collectively get the
stories out.

6. African American and African writers
need to understand what picture they are
painting of their culture and their people.

7. African American and African writers
need to understand as Achebe states,
“fiction can be written as true,” by the
reliance on factual elements.

8. African American and African writers
need to understand that in their blogs
resonate with their readers and create
emotion and action.

9. African American and African writers
need to understand the “human story,”
and the “human condition” to feel their
readers.

10. African American and African writers
need to understand that storytelling is
a creative art and a way of influencing
thought and perceptions.

11. African American and African writers
need to understand the importance to stay
connected and grounded to their inspiration.

need to understand it is valuable to be
connected between their research and
personal experiences.

need to understand there is not one way
to share a story. The diversity of Social
Media allow for content to be spread globally
and through divere platforms.

need to understand that diversity in writing
means that bloggers/writers must remain
students of literature.

15. African American and African writers
need to understand that when Chinua Achebe
states, “storytelling is a threat to anyone
in control,” or “seeking to take away control,
the storyteller has a different agenda”
than those in control.

16. African American and African writers
need to understand they cannot afford to be
selfish or self promoting with their talents.
They cannot put themselves ahead of their
readers.

Part 2 Chinua Achebe and How to Build a Blog

Bloggers cannot just sit on their asses,
they need to be involved in their communities,
attending community meetings, volunteering
with youth, teens and young adults. The
way to build an online community is to be
involved in the community. Online
communities have a responsibility to
support offline communities that have a
mission and vision to help youth, teens,
young adults and even elders.

Listed are things bloggers need to
be aware of when building content and
sharing information. From Achebe, Soyinka,
and other writers locally or globally the
skill of storytelling is not easy. The
act or blogging is not always easy because
of the intended outcomes can be varied and
the audiences ability and willingness of
listening and engaging.

African Americans and African Writers
need to blog to tell their stories. No one
else can do that. The history of colonization,
slavery, Civil Rights, Racism, Colorism,
raising children of color and culture all are
stories that need to be told. For to long mass
media has told the false, half truths, lies and
fallacies of African Americans, Africans and
others of color and culture.

17. African American and African writers
need to understand they have a cultural
responsibility to protect their culture
from being mentally colonized and enslaved.

18. African American and African writers
need to understand it is important to
keep a mind open to embrace creativity
and imagination.

19. African American and African writers
need to understand they cannot allow
others to tell one side of a story, nor
create a false story.

20. African American and African writers
need to understand their power in creating
memories through their writing.

21. Chinua Achebe, “I write because I enjoy it.”

22. African American and African writers
need to understand they should be inspiring,
encouraging, and engaging other writers of
color and culture who want to be writers.

need to understand that their volunteering
and speaking to children, teens and young
adults encourages “children to fly,” and
“parents/adults must not keep children
grounded.” Exposure is important to plant
the seeds of knowledge and direction.

poor, the powerless and the stricken.

need to understand when participating
in their communities they must have
a passion and intensity to improve their
communities.

caution is not getting caught up in
political, religious, cultural and social
agendas and lies.

novels waiting to be transformed.”

story to those that need to be inspired
and uplifted.

need to understand there is power in their
stories.

need to understand they can depict people
of color and culture with dignity and
respect. Mass media shows people of color
as “creatures and things” not the morality
of life and liberty.

need to be careful of the level of their
writings. Not everyone reading will be a
college graduate, in politics, speak
articulately, read as the same level,
or have the same life experiences.

need to understand they should make every
effort worth the effort of writing.

34. Writers should have mentors and
role models to guide them.

In this world of diversity and culture
bloggers must be careful of their souls,
their morals and values. Their content will
never go away so should be careful and
cautious of how the world perceives them
and their associations.

We are looking for works about and by
Black Women

This blog is not about just one color or
culture, but about the value and importance
of reading, literacy, comprehension and
creativity of writing for all children.

The summer has made its appearance and
kids are excited about the opportunities of
“freedom” from schools across the nation.
Parents should still have their children
engaged in learning opportunties by visiting
library events, museum viewings and cultural
events that engage kids with fun
learning activities.

Reading and writing during the summer are still
important and the the power of the written word
has been seen for thousands of years, individuals
and groups sharing thoughts, ideas, impressions,
feelings and to tell the life histories of
people and cultures.

Children, teens and young adults should be
introduced to writing as a way to learn how to
express their feelings, dreams, passions and
the challenges that they face. Writing can be
used as a coping mechanism and teach how to
manage the emotional diversity of children,
especially children of color and culture.
To develop intellectual thought and creativity.

Various cultures and societies have their
influences in writing as early blogging
(in my humble opinion). Chinese culture
writing was determined to come not from a
god but an ancient sage named Ts’ang Chieh.
He was a minister in the court of the legendary
Huang Ti (Yellow Emperor). While not godly the
invention of writing was supposed to serve as
a communication tool between heaven and earth.
The culture of writing has historical
importance around the world. Diverse
cultures througth history shared their
stories throught storytelling orally until
writing was established and education
advanced.

Blogging on a digital format continues to change
as writing is manipulated, transformed, dissected,
adapted and tailored to the increasing integration
of technology tools and platforms.
The foundation is the human mind that conceives in
thought the words that are transcribed into
written or typed words. In a way these words are
already in an electrical format because
thoughts are generated by the synapses
of the mind, thus electrical impulses
and birthed by the hands onto the materials for
publication.

Formats can be seen from the dynamic
platforms being used from Blogger, WordPress,
Twitter (Microblogging), Tumblr, Google+ and
even Ghost to name a few. Children, youth and
teens can embrace the diversity and creative
characteristics of blogging and learn to be
innovative in their words, phrases and extention
of their views. Writing helps
to develop vocabulary in children, making it
fun to combine words into stories. It is
wonderful to see a teen excited about reading
and the process of writing.

Looking at the 15 Best Blogging Platforms

it is clear that blogging will remain as an important
historical tool to share and disseminate information
on multiple levels and students need to learn how
to write, the importance of the
writing process and that it can be fun.

Many children are excited to share their thoughts
with art work and drawing, this is the creative
centers of the brain, writing also encouarges the
mind to form ideas, challenges connections and
breeds innovation. What better way to build
character.

Children should be taught that not to long ago
it was illegal to teach slaves or those of color,
no matter what color or culture to read and write
during the time of slavery not just in America,
but around the world. Today Blogging is
responsible for showing the world the greatness
of people. There is estimated over 12 million
bloggers in America, African Americans need
to take seriously their ability to share stories.

I always encourage people of color and culture
the beauty in blogging because it allows
the expansion into other areas of digital
communication. A platform of expression on
levels that allow for intellectualism where
students should be moving towards.
Students should understand blogging allows the
writer (them) to be creators in this age of
digital media that is changing social
interaction, allowing for collaboration,
a paradigm in alliances of the mind and taking
social networking to levels of
unprecedented growth.

Children, teens and young adults, bloggers of
color and culture and those of diverse
languages are important because they create
original content specifically addressing diverse
issues that may never be recognized by
traditional media or ignored
because of a lack of understanding or caring.

No matter the color, culture, gender,
generation and age kids of all ages have
something to say, this summer parents get
your children involved in some type of reading
and writing program to prepare them not
just for the next school year, but for life.
