The recent “Moving Forward By Faith” A Cappella Concert attended
by Church of Christ members from as far as the state of North Carolina and
the City of Jacksonville and local members of the body of Christ in Miami, Florida
Enjoyed the lyrical acapella talents of groups such as:
ASAP – New Faithful Few – M.A.N.N – Heaven’s Harmony – M.V.F.C.
that shared their lyrically diverse talents and abilities.
Singing in A cappella (Italian for “in the manner of the church” or “in the
manner of the chapel”) music is specifically group or solo singing without
instruments. The dynamic talents of this type of music can be heard in the
technical singing as some groups use their voices
to imitate/emulate instruments.
As a new convert listening I was absorbed into the harmonizing and the
A cappella styles and acoustic ranges of the singers. The meshing and
vocal alliances created to generate an encyclopedic of vocalization and
wide-ranging tones and melodies that massaged the senses and encouraged
a spiritual connection of praise and worship. Unlike traditional concerts
of secular music the messages in the music were not of personal or group
recognition for their singing ability, but it was strictly directed to Praise and Worship.
Dealing with and overcoming the challenges that life and living sometimes throws
at us and has the ability to test our faith and fortitude to overcome situations
and circumstances. The songs of acapella are directed to our Lord praising
him for his grace and mercy.
Scripture is key because it guides the direction of praise and allows
for spiritual growth. In Col 3:16 KJV is it written “Let the word of Christ
dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”
Hearing and meditating on the words provided each person
on an individual level to praise God for his mercy and as
a group the congregational worship through song was electrifying.
Praising God’s name is done to provide each of us to personally
give thanks for the many blessing we understand and those we
have received even though we are all sinners.
In Heb 13:15 KJV By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise
to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
The fruits of the men, women and boys and girls was delivered
in power-driven worship.
At the conclusion of the two day event it was clear that
as a Body of believers as written in Eph 5:30 KJV
“For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.”
That feeling was magnified and intensified.
As a new convert I tried to share in a scripture based way the
events of the two days that also celebrated
Brownsville Church of Christ in Miami, Florida.
